I'd like to take this opportunity to explain why I only charge $40 for a portrait session while other photographers charge much more.
First of all I do not take pictures to make a ton of money. I just love taking pictures. I never set out to make a ton of money from my picture taking. Do I make money from my photography? Yes, but not a whole lot.
Second, I do not devalue my photography skills and my finished work at all. I take a ton of pride in the pictures and the experience I provide to my clients. I may not be perfect at it but I work hard at it.
Third, I am in no way, shape or form trying to undercut any other photographer's bottom line by charging less than them. I would never do that. That's not who I am at all. And trust me, the other photographers have plenty of business to keep them busy. Much more business than I do at the moment.
Fourth, I just want people to have an opportunity to get good pictures done if they want them without breaking the bank. It was a struggle for me to charge $40, but I have to charge something for the time I put into preparation, picture taking and post processing. When the sunflower field opportunity fell into my lap last fall I felt I couldn't charge anything simply because I got lucky and the owners weren't charging me anything at all to use their field.
So there you have it. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to leave them in the comments section.
Thanks!
Jonathan
